Rhino Times

Justification of the Solutions

PROTECT RHINOS

For decades, rhinos have been hunted by crime syndicates for their horns, which are then sold on the black market. Today, they are one of the most endangered species on the planet – that’s why we protect them. Hemmersbach Rhino Force fights poachers with night vision, stealth boats, drones, and if necessary also uses armed force. Patrolling the bush, our rangers risk their lives every day to ensure the rhinos’ and other wildlife’s survival.

PRESERVE RHINO GENES

To preserve the current genetic diversity of rhinos, Hemmersbach Rhino Force has started the Cryovault project. We collect rhino sperm, egg cells as well as other biological material from live and deceased individuals. All samples are cryopreserved in our biobank, which will soon be the largest genetic reservoir for African rhinoceros in the world. The frozen reproductive material enables assisted breeding – the ultimate safety net against extinction

SUPPORT LOCAL COMMUNITIES

Hemmersbach Rhino Force also improves the living conditions of people in Southern Africa, offering them alternatives to poaching. By cleaning up the trash and waste in communities (see our Marara Ladies project further below), we reduce the risk of diseases among inhabitants and animals. We also restore and equip schools while supporting initiatives of local chiefs.
